Welcome from BFA's Principal

September 2007

Dear BFA Family,

Happy New Year! I am excited and humbled as your new principal to begin what promises to be a successful year for everyone. Our team is committed to providing rigorous and challenging curriculum for our scholars with the goal that every graduate will be accepted to a four-year college or university. We will work relentlessly to increase student achievement, family and community involvement, and professional proficiency for our staff.

I am originally from Kentucky and have served the Baltimore City community for four years as both a teacher and a resident principal. I now proudly call Baltimore my home and am consistently inspired by the brilliance of our children and the importance of our work together. Teaching and learning will be my primary foci this year, as we prepare our students for academic achievement and personal development in the Academy.

I welcome Mr. Mark Brown as our Dean of Students and our leader for school culture and student support. We will work collaboratively with our staff, families and community partners to enhance the entire Baltimore Freedom Academy experience for every stakeholder. Through a commitment to our mission and vision, our goal is to fully prepare our scholars to be leaders in their communities and ready for both college and success after graduation.

I challenge every member of our community to demonstrate their BFA PRIDE:

P: Professionalism

R: Respect

I: Initiative

D: Determination

E: Enthusiasm

Through these qualities, we create a culture of high expectations, in which excellence is expected from everyone every day.

We welcome you into our school community and challenge you to become involved in making BFA successful. Through our collaborative effort, we will ensure that Baltimore Freedom Academy is a school in which scholars are the system rather than a product of it. As members of the BFA community, we work relentlessly to provide a challenging and nurturing learning environment for every scholar.

Please reach out to me with your feedback and ideas for improving our academy. My email is dhunter@baltimorefreedomacademy.org and the school phone number is 443-984-2737.

In the pursuit of excellence,

Dana Hunter-

Principal
