Support BFA
Volunteers are a valued part of our school community. They lend skills and expertise, caring eyes and ears, and another set of hands to the mission of preparing our young people for the best possible future. At BFA you will find volunteers mentoring individual or groups of students, tutoring, leading co-curricular activities, organizing events, working on committees, monitoring hallways, raising money, providing work experiences for students, and in all ways, letting our students know there are people who care about them.
Please join us. There are many opportunities to participate, whether you can commit to a regular time or can only help here and there. The rewards are immeasurable. You can fill out an application to volunteer at BFA and someone will contact you soon. To find out more about how you or your group can volunteer at BFA, call 443-984-2739.
Some opportunities to get involved at BFA include:
Group Mentors - Leading Ladies of Tomorrow
Women volunteers are needed to serve as role models and facilitators in our Leading Ladies of Tomorrow mentoring program. This program meets twice monthly during after school hours (4:15PM until 5:45PM). Volunteers work as a team to provide workshops and fun activities targeted towards supporting our female student’s making healthy life choices.
Annual Service Events
We welcome volunteers who want to assist in planning and/or implementation of our annual fall Harvest Festival or spring Health and Wellness Teens Fair.
Hall Monitors
We encourage parents to spend at least one day per semester volunteering at BFA supporting classroom teachers, monitoring hallways and lending support in our offices.
Interviewers
We are seeking members of the business community to serve as interviewers during our annual On Campus Interviewing activities. Interviewers generally spend two - three hours during the event interviewing students who have prepared resumes and cover letters and participated in professional skills training prior to the event.
Learning By Service/Internship Host Site
We are always seeking individuals who will provide opportunities for our students at their worksite. In the past judges chambers, law offices, non-profits, elementary schools, and park service among others have opened their doors for our students to serve as long term volunteers or to shadow during our Leadership Week.
Mentors
It is important at BFA that every student be known well by at least one adult who is a part of our school community. Additionally, we attempt to connect students with individual mentors who can provide guidance without judgement. This commitment is three hours per week at a minimum.
Classroom Tutors
Volunteers are always needed to provide one-on-one support to students who are below grade level or simply struggling in a particular content area. Tutors are asked to come to BFA at least twice per month.
