Welcome to BFA
BFA welcomes faculty and staff who accept membership in a community of learners and responsibility for student achievement. Our team holds one another accountable for maintaining a quality professional environment that supports growth and leadership amongst its members.
There are many ways that faculty and staff take ownership for the academic and social culture of the Baltimore Freedom Academy. Some of those include:
- Advising a cohort of students academically and socially for four years with a high level of consistency and integrity
- Committing to weekly after school staff meetings organized and led by colleagues
- Submitting to an evaluation process that captures the spirit of the BFA mission and academic standards
- Seeking professional development opportunities that builds their skills and communicating what they’ve learned back to the faculty and staff
- Participating in a “critical friends” system that includes offering and receiving constructive critique of peers through informal classroom observations
- Providing students with bi-weekly electronic grade reports to offer continuous reliable feedback
- Advising co-curricular activities and coaching athletic teams
- Planning school-wide academic and cultural field trips
- Mapping curriculum in support of a living and breathing model that supports student interests and needs
- Attending an annual faculty retreat and an annual faculty team building activity
- Interdisciplinary planning in support of our project-based and college prep model
